Lesson 8

Contrived Experiences

Contrived experiences are the edited copies or reality and are used as substitutes for real things when it is not practical or not possible to bring or do the real thing in the classroom.Contrived experiences has various types. These are the models,mock-ups,specimens,objects and simulations.Models are reproduction of real thing in a small scale,or large scale,or exact size but made of synthetic materials.Mock-ups are arrangements of real device or associated devises displayed in such a way that representation of reality is created.Specimens are any individual or item considered of a group, class or whole that represents the real thing.Objects include artifacts displayed in a museum or objects displayed in exhibits.Simulations,on the other hand, are representations of a manageable real event in which the learner is an active participant engaged in learning a behavior or in applying previous skills or knowledge.
Contrived experiences are very useful in the learning process because they provide things that are not available in the environment or inside the classroom .These things are used as substitutes for us to study or examine.Because these things are not available in the environment,we need copies to be able to study them.
